| Sunday, October 18, 1998 at Suffern, NY | | It`s time for our first driver`s meeting. The Hot
Rod people go over our route for today and
explain all the planned gas stops and changes to
the schedule. They encourage everyone to go at
their own pace and see the sights instead of
caravaning.
Sounds good to us, thanks for everything guys...
We also hear from the ``Motor Medic`` people,
they
are at all of the stops with basic parts and
tools to help if someone`s ride lays down.
Then the Hot Rod people load up in their flamed
black van and we take off. Their van is supposed
to follow a set schedule for driving a specific
route and stopping at specified gas stops. It`s
kind of cool. We stopped for our first gas stop
this morning with the group. We have to mix
octane booster in a gas can then pour that in the
tank and then add the best fuel we can find.
10.5:1 compression, yeah right. Anyway, here`s
what the driver`s meeting looked like.

| The Camaro is doing really well, today was the
first time it`s actually been on the road and we
drove it about 200 miles. Here we are crossing
the Hudson River at Newburg, NY. It almost seems
like the longer we go, the more settled it gets.
Not as many noises and vibrations as it had
yesterday. It has a real sweet spot around 68
miles an hour where it is as smooth as glass. We
ran there most of the day so we passed a lot of
cars on the tour. Just about every overpass has
people standing on it watching the cars and
taking pictures, on the rural roads people stand
on the side of the road and watch us go by while
they wave. It`s really neat and makes the trips
go by quick
 |
| Here is a line of hot rods as we went by, they`re
expecting 1500 participants at the stop tonight.
 |
| How about this?
A `57 Chevy limousine.
Now that is Power Touring in style.
 |
| Here we are, at Anthony Wayne State Park in Stony
Point, NY. This is part of Bear Mountain Park.
The whole place was full of people who came up
from New York City for the day. There were people
pic-nic-ing, walking, biking and running
everywhere through the mountains. The
recreational area was a great little spot in a
valley next to the Palisades Parkway. We had to
move the event here because of so many cars
coming in.
 |
| This afternoon`s entertainment was Joan Jett,
yeah that`s right, Joan Jett. You know - ``I Love
Rock and Roll``. The people at Flowmaster have
really taken care of everyone by setting up these
concerts.
She was great!!!
 |
| Here was our display after we got there, this
place was really crowded with people and their
cars.
