WHAT'S NEW @ COMP Cams®
Mike Bowles Chosen As COMP Cams® Top Performer For March
04/18/2012 12:55:27 PM
In 2012, weekly racers are being randomly recognized as the COMP Cams® Top Performer of the Month. The winner for March is Tennessee competitor Mike Bowles.
Mike Bowles from Mason, TN, is the March COMP Cams® Top Performer of the Month. Bowles, 38, has raced for a total of eight years.  He first competed as a beginner in the Hobby Stock division before eventually progressing into the Street Stock class, and he currently pilots the #66 Street Stock, primarily at Riverside International Speedway (West Memphis, Arkansas).  The car is a 1981 Camaro, and his Frazier Motorsports team utilizes power plants produced by Walker's Engine Service. Mike first jumped behind the wheel of a race car at the end of the 2001 season at Riverside, where he competed in the Hobby II class, a division for beginners. "I had always enjoyed going to the races, and I had always wanted to try driving,” Bowles remembers. “The first time I got behind the wheel I was hooked instantly, and I knew it was something that I wanted to do." After entering a few events late in the 2001 season, Bowles made a full assault on the class in 2002. It proved to be a great year, which ended with him claiming the Hobby II track championship. After winning the championship in the division track rules dictated that a driver had to move to Hobby I, so Mike advanced to the tougher class. "While I had some tough competitors in Hobby II, it was nothing like Hobby I, and I learned quickly that I had a lot of work to do if I was going to be competitive," he notes. The competition may have been tougher, but Bowles rose to the occasion quickly by claiming two championships in three years, and five feature wins in the Hobby I division, driving primarily for Richard Gray.  Despite his success, Mike decided to step away from the sport at the end of the 2005 season, and wasn't really sure if he would drive a race car again. "I enjoyed racing, but I just needed a break.  I told most people I wasn't sure that I would drive again, but deep down inside I knew better," he laughs. His racing hiatus lasted until the 2009 season, when some of his good friends with Frazier Motorsports put a new Street Stock together. The team asked Mike to drive the car for a few nights to get the setup right and to help work out the bugs.  Not only did Bowles help the team find the setup, he also found victory lane quickly. What started as a two or three race deal suddenly turned into a full-time ride. "I was really honored when the Frazier family asked me to drive their car on a full-time basis. Those folks have great equipment and do whatever they can to make sure the car is in winning form. I'm definitely indebted to them," Bowles says. While Mike found victory lane in 2009 and several times in 2010, his biggest win came at the end of the 2010 season, when he claimed the $1,500 win in the COMP Cams® Grass Root Nationals at Riverside International Speedway. "The paycheck and the contingencies were great, but that was probably the toughest field of Street Stock competitors I've ever faced,” he remembers.” I mean there were probably 20 guys there that night that had a chance to win the feature. To be able to beat a caliber of drivers like that in the biggest race of the year was a real big deal and to me it felt like the Daytona 500." For the first half of the 2011 season Bowles split his time between the Frazier Motorsports entry and a car for George Washington Motorsports, but by the end of the year he was back with Frazier Motorsports on a full-time basis. The 2012 season will find Mike again challenging for the Street Stock track championship at Riverside, but when his schedule allows he plans to enter special events at other area tracks. "While I was driving for George Washington we traveled to a few specials at other tracks, and I quickly realized that to truly get better you need to go to different tracks and take on different competition,” Bowles explains. “It's amazing how much more there is to be learned." Mike is quick to note that while he gets the accolades for the team's performance, that there are a lot of great people who help keep him at the front of the pack. "First I have to thank Mike Frazier and Diane Frazier and everyone at Frazier Motorsports, as they go above and beyond to keep my hotrod running at its best,” he says. “My girlfriend, Janice Brown, is an unbelievable help to me. Not only do I get moral support from her, but she tapes my races each and every week, so that I can go back and watch them to see where I need improvement. That's been a big factor in my success. Also I have a great crew including Eddie Harvell, Brian McWilliams, Brian Bowles, Jeff Rice and Wes Hardin.  Without the help and support of all of these people, I would not be so successful." Mike says that he has learned a lot about racing from watching some of the Memphis area's top drivers, but he has one racing hero that sticks out in his mind. "When I was driving for Richard Gray, he introduced me to Sprint Car competitor Eddie Gallagher. After meeting Eddie I started watching the Sprint Car division more, and I was just in awe of what he could do with a car on a dirt track.  Watching him drive definitely inspired me," Mike says. Yet of all the wins and championships in Mike Bowles’ career, there is one special moment in his racing career that really sticks out. "My third year of racing, I was getting ready to run the feature, and a lady motioned me over to the catch fence,” he says. “When I got over there she asked if I could sign something for her son because he really wanted my autograph.  It blew me away that someone wanted my autograph, and I was so nervous I could barely spell my name.” As the COMP Cams® Top Performer for March, Bowles received a $50 gas card, a COMP Cams® $100 product certificate, and a COMP® Swag Pack. Racers who wish to enter the COMP Cams® Top Performer contest should complete the entry form on the forum at www.MidSouthRacing.com. Casey Findley Chosen As COMP Cams® Top Performer For February
04/18/2012 12:49:31 PM
In 2012, weekly racers are being randomly recognized as the COMP Cams® Top Performer of the Month, and the winner for February is Arkansas driver, Casey Findley.
Bryant, Arkansas' Casey Findley has been chosen as the very first COMP Cams® Top Performer of the Month, the latest COMP® program recognizing racers’ on-track accomplishments. Casey is 38 years old and has been racing for over 25 years. He races primarily at Beebe Speedway (Beebe, Arkansas) and I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas), but occasionally enters various special events at other tracks throughout the southeast. Casey, who currently competes in the Open Wheel Modified division, utilizes both Larry Shaw Race Cars and Hoffman Race Cars for his chassis’, and the power plants under the hood of his #17F entry are provided by Kevin Barker. Findley began his career in 1987 at the age of 13, and for the next eight years raced part-time in divisions that included Mini Stocks, Super Stocks and Street Stocks, managing to only win a total of three events. With a limited budget he opted to step away from racing at the end of the 1995 season and wouldn't return until 2002. With a better plan and better equipment, Findley quickly began finding victory lane in his return to racing, and also found his way to the Open Wheel Modified division in 2005. From 2002 until 2011, Findley won over 50 features, with his biggest career win coming in the 2010 Monster Madness event at Centerville Speedway (Centerville, Arkansas). While it wasn't the biggest paying win of his career, it was the most memorable because it came over some major rivals. "There were some bizarre circumstances and some ill will leading up to that event that season, and there were some pretty hard feelings amongst some racers from that area,” Findley reminisces. “I wanted that win as bad as I've ever wanted anything, and the pride that came with standing in victory lane far outweighed the $1,200 winner's check." Casey's favorite race track is Columbus Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi), known as the “Baddest Bullring in the South,” because he loves the high-speed racing on the high banks of the 1/3 mile oval. The race he would most like to win, however, is the annual Dirty 30 at I-30 Speedway. The event traditionally brings more than 50 of the area's top Open Wheel Modifieds into battle at the track each year, and a win in the race brings with it not only a $2,000 winner's check, but also bragging rights for the year. Family is a big part of Casey's life, and for him his proudest moment came as he watched his son, Drake, claim his first feature win in Go-Karts at Atoka Raceway Park (Atoka, Tennessee). "Watching him race brings me more enjoyment than racing myself, and to see him beat such a tough field of competitors for the first time at Atoka will always be my most memorable moment," Findley says. His family, which includes children, Drake (9) and Brilynn Grace (5), and his wife of thirteen years, Michelle, is a major part of the team.  Other key crew members include team owner Kevin Barker, along with crew chief Russell Roberson, and crew member Tyler Breashears. "I have an awesome team and can't thank Kevin Barker enough for the opportunity that he affords me,” Findley comments. “My entire crew is great, and it makes it that much better to have my family there with me each night. Findley plans to again compete at I-30 Speedway and Beebe Speedway in 2012, as well as in select events at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas).  Once a month he will also take Drake to Atoka as the youngster continues to build his own racing career. For being the COMP Cams® Top Performer for February, Findley received a $50 gas card, a case of COMP® Engine Break-In Oil, a set of RHS® SBC valve covers and a swag pack featuring a hat, banner and poster. Racers who wish to enter the COMP Cams® Top Performer contest should complete the entry form on the forum at www.MidSouthRacing.com. Drivers only need to enter once to be eligible to win each and every month.

COMP Cams® Returns As Title Sponsor Of Interstate Sprint Car Trophy Cup
04/18/2012 12:43:39 PM
For the second straight season COMP Cams® has signed on as the title sponsor of the COMP Cams® Interstate Sprint Car Trophy Cup. The program offers incentives to 360 c.i. Sprint Car competitors throughout the Mid-South who compete at their two local tracks.
In early 2011, MidSouthRacing.com owner, Ben Shelton, and COMP Cams® Vice President of Marketing, Chris Douglas, discussed the idea of creating a program that rewarded Sprint Car competitors in the Mid-South for competing in weekly racing series events at the two area tracks which ran Sprint Cars on a weekly basis. For decades I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) and Riverside International Speedway (West Memphis, Arkansas) have produced some of the top Sprint Car pilots in the nation, while wowing fans with incredible shows. Both tracks, located only 100 miles apart, created a driver-friendly schedule in 2011, where Sprint Cars did not run on conflicting nights. The program quickly came to life as both tracks contributed cash to the points fund, while COMP Cams® also joined the program as the title sponsor, providing contingency prizes and a trophy cup to the champion. Despite seeing the program come together just a week before the start of the season, the 2011 COMP Cams® Sprint Car Trophy Cup saw a great battle contested, which went down to the final event. A.G. Rains from West Memphis, AR, claimed the title and the trophy cup over Cody Gardner, Zach Pringle and Ronny Howard. For 2012 the program has returned with COMP Cams® again serving as the title sponsor and both tracks participating.  The points fund has been impressively doubled to include over $8,000 in cash with the introduction of sponsorship from Dixon Road U-Pull-It, based in Little Rock. COMP Cams® has added over $2,600 in contingency awards to the ante as well, in addition to the trophy cup that it will provide to the champion for the second straight season. The program begins at I-30 Speedway on Saturday, March 17th, and concludes with the event on Saturday, September 22nd at Riverside International Speedway. COMP Cams® Vice President of Marketing, Chris Douglas, comments, "The COMP Cams® Interstate Trophy Cup illustrates what is good in racing. It represents weekly competition and it also represents good-hearted rivalries among hard-nosed competitors from the Mid-South area. COMP Cams® believes in weekly racers and weekly racing, and we are honored to be a part of this great program. We are all excited to see what driver comes out on top in the 2012 contest." 04/18/2012 12:33:39 PM
For the 2012 season, COMP Cams® has expanded its involvement with the IMCA sanction to include more awards for drivers and their respective engine builders.
The 2012 racing season will mark the tenth year that Memphis-based COMP Cams® has been involved with the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) as a part of the sanction's required decal program. While COMP Cams® is proud to again be a sponsor of several of the IMCA divisions, including Open Wheel Modifieds, Late Models, Hobby Stocks and Sport Mods, the company is equally proud to announce the addition of sponsorship for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division.  Drivers in all divisions are required to display two COMP Cams® decals on their race car to become eligible for shares of point funds and contingency awards. In exchange for displaying the decals, the national champions in the IMCA Modified, IMCA Late Model, and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car divisions, and top finishing claim engine drivers in national IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Smiley’s Racing Chassis Southern SportMod national standings, along with their respective engine builders, all will receive $250 in cash and $250 in product certificates from COMP Cams®. Those certificates may be applied toward any COMP® purchase. The Engine Builder Challenge was established five years ago, with the cash awards added last season. Checks and product certificates from COMP Cams® will be presented to drivers during the national awards banquet in November, and mailed the following week to engine builders. “The addition of COMP Cams® to the Stock Car required decal program is a testament to the company’s continually increasing dedication to racers in all sanctioned divisions,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “The totality of the COMP Cams® program is pretty extensive and that commitment to IMCA racing will be very visible this season.” “The Engine Builder Challenge is a COMP Cams® exclusive in 2012,” he added, “and it will be interesting to track which engine builders are at the top of our national standings.” COMP Cams® Director of Marketing, Chris Douglas, echoes Yoder's sentiments on the program by noting, "The IMCA sanction has literally thousands of racers across the nation, and these racers represent the backbone of motorsports.  In addition, the engine builders who produce the power plants for these cars are equally important, and it means a lot to COMP Cams® to be able to recognize the drivers and engine builders for their great accomplishments." COMP Cams® has also renewed awards based on final regional standings for Open Wheel Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks, as well as awards for national standings in the Late Model, Northern SportMod and Southern SportMod divisions. The top five eligible drivers in each of the five IMCA Open Wheel Modified regions receive COMP Cams® product certificates in $300, $250, $200, $150 and $100 increments. In addition, the top three prizes for national IMCA Late Model and regional IMCA Stock Car drivers will receive COMP Cams® product certificates in the amounts of $300, $200 and $100 COMP Cams® product certificates of the same value go to the top three claim engine drivers in both Hobby Stock regional standings and national standings for the two SportMod divisions. Meanwhile, another $500 from COMP Cams® is earmarked for the top finishing driver with a claim engine in the Northern SportMod main event at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Cenex at Iowa’s Boone Speedway. COMP Cams® And Quarter Master® To Sponsor DART Corn Belt Clash Again In 2012
04/18/2012 9:52:13 AM
For the 2012 racing season, COMP Cams® and Quarter Master® have again signed on as contingency sponsors for the DART Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series.
Despite 2012 marking only the fourth year of existence for the upper Midwest-based DART Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series, the tour is rapidly growing and emerging as one of the top regional tours in the nation. The series, which calls West Union, IA, home, was created in 2009 by Cam Granger to fill a void that was becoming glaringly obvious in his area. Open Dirt Late Model engine events were going by the wayside and were being replaced by races which allowed only spec engines. Granger and his cohorts saw a need to create a product that would prevent the extinction of open Dirt Late Model competition, and thus the DART Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series was born. Growth has definitely not been an issue for the tour. In its debut season in 2009  a mere five events were held, all in the state of Iowa, but for the 2012 docket the tour already boasts seventeen dates in six states, including Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Missouri. Keith Foss of Winona, MN, won the inaugural title, but Mt. Vernon, IA's Chad Simpson has wreaked havoc on the tour for the past two years, claiming titles in 2010 and 2011. The rapid growth of the tour only goes to prove that there is an ever-growing demand among racers and fans for true, open Dirt Late Model racing. For COMP Cams® and Quarter Master®, tours like the Corn Belt Clash are an important part of the motorsports puzzle. They allow the beauty of open, non-restricted competition to grow and prosper. Vice President of Marketing for COMP Cams®, Chris Douglas, notes, "Competitors with tours like the Corn Belt Clash like to compete in an unrestricted, outlaw world, if you will. If you look back in history that's the type of rationale and motive that created motorsports as we know it today. As a company we can definitely relate to this driving force, and that's just one of the many reasons we are proud to be involved with this tour." For the 2012 season, COMP Cams® and Quarter Master® have provided over $6,000 in total product certificates to be distributed to DART Corn Belt Clash competitors during the course of the year. In addition, both companies will be compiling various awards for the tour to present during its annual points banquet at the end of the season. For more information on the DART Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series, please visit www.CornBeltClash.com.

COMP Cams® Chrysler Hemi Phaser Camshafts
02/24/2012 1:09:06 PM
COMP Cams® Chrysler Hemi Phaser Camshafts utilize Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology to maximize power and performance in stock and street/strip applications.
Memphis, TN – COMP Cams® Chrysler Hemi Phaser Camshafts utilize Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology to maximize power and performance in stock and street/strip applications.

The new Hemi engines from Chrysler are great power plants straight from the factory, with technology that allows the camshaft to move in real time. Instead of scrapping this advanced system, COMP Cams® has embraced it with a new line of aftermarket Hemi specific cams.

These patent pending Hemi Phaser Camshafts work with phaser limiters or locks to fully utilize Chrysler's Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology, which allows the camshaft to pick up torque in the low end of the engine while maintaining power up high. Made from a billet core, these hydraulic roller cams are engineered tough enough to handle 5.7L and 6.4L Hemi street /strip engines. Their unique, no springs required design maintains piston to valve clearance while enabling high performance lobes utilizing VVT, making them perfect for late model Dodge Challengers, Dodge Chargers, Chrysler 300s, Jeeps, Dodge trucks and Mopar crate engines with VVT.

The camshafts are available as both custom and three different off-the-shelf grinds dependent upon engine type for improved performance over OEM options. COMP Cams® Phaser Limiter or Lock Kits limit the degree of maximum cam phasing to 14 crank degrees (7 cam degrees) and are required for use.

COMP Cams® Phaser Limiter And Lock Kits For Chrysler Hemi Engines
02/24/2012 1:07:03 PM
New Cam Phaser Limiter and Lock Kits for Chrysler Hemi Engines allow users to run a bigger camshaft with more lift for higher performance applications.

Memphis, TN – New Cam Phaser Limiter and Lock Kits for Chrysler Hemi Engines allow users to run a bigger camshaft with more lift for higher performance applications.

While cam phasers provide tremendous efficiency benefits, they also present some limitations when it comes to performance camshafts. In turn, COMP Cams® has developed Cam Phaser Limiter and Lock Kits for Chrysler Hemi 5.7L, 6.1L and 6.4L V8 engines. The limiter kits limit maximum cam phasing to 14 crank degrees (7 cam degrees) to provide the necessary piston to valve clearance when using larger aftermarket camshafts. Meanwhile, lock kits take all movement out of the phaser. Combining these performance modifications with more aggressive cam profiles will result in larger upper RPM gains without sacrificing any bottom end or mid-range performance. COMP Cams® Phaser Limiter and Lock Kits are one-of-a-kind, as they are the first phaser tools designed specifically for Hemi engines.

Ultra-Gold™ ARC Rockers have arrived with design updates and features that take the line of rockers to a whole new level of performance

Memphis, TN − The next generation of COMP Cams® Ultra-Gold™ ARC Series Aluminum Rocker Arms have arrived. The new ARC series has design updates and new features that take the popular line of rockers to a whole new level.

The original Ultra-Gold™ Aluminum Rockers changed the way racing and high performance street engine builders approached valve train design. Now, COMP Cams® is revolutionizing valve train performance again with the next generation of Ultra-Gold™ ARC Series Aluminum Rocker Arms, featuring an Arced, Recessed, Contoured design. Using cutting edge design techniques and manufacturing processes, Ultra-Gold™ ARC Rockers increase engine power, enhance valve train stability and improve oiling while fitting under stock valve covers. Ultra-Gold™ ARC Rockers feature a new extrusion based on improvements developed through FEA analysis, resulting in an even stronger, stiffer body without compromising mass. A new arced channel and contoured top, similar to a bridge design, give the rockers the best strength-to-weight ratio possible. The body has additional CNC contouring to improve clearances for valve covers and springs. Manufactured entirely in the U.S.A., all Ultra-Gold™ ARC Series Aluminum Rocker Arms feature a spring oiler channel through the body for improved lubrication. Trunnion retaining clips have been replaced with an ultra durable spiral lock type clip, similar to what holds a piston pin in place. Stress relieving radii have also been added to areas of the body, trunnion and pushrod seat insert. Even the included locking nuts have been revised to increase surface area to better maintain lash and eliminate wear.

Swindell Claims 24th Annual COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals
11/09/2011 2:25:10 PM
Sprint Car legend Sammy Swindell conquered a field of 100 of the nation's best Sprint Car pilots to claim his second event title in the 24th Annual COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) on Saturday, October 29th.

Little Rock, AR - Sprint Car legend Sammy Swindell conquered a field of 100 of the nation's best Sprint Car pilots to claim his second event title in the 24th Annual COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) on Saturday, October 29th.

In Sprint Car racing there are hundreds of special events across the country each year, but there are only a handful of crown jewels. The annual COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock falls on the list of illustrious events that every competitor wants to win. Each year the best Sprint Car drivers in the country and the most avid fans converge on the high-banked, 1/4 mile oval located in central Arkansas. The event is known for its close quarters racing and wild happenings. Even more notable is that the event is typically filled with drama, and the 2011 edition of the crown jewel event was no exception.

Exactly 100 Sprint Cars from sixteen states entered the event on October 26th - 29th, 2011. After a successful practice night on Wednesday evening the racing action was slated to get underway on Thursday, when approximately half of the field was to take to the track for their preliminary programs. Mother Nature proved to be an antagonist on the opening night, however, as intermittent rains became terminal midway through Thursday's program, forcing the balance of the action to be completed the following evening before the commencement of Friday's schedule.

When the action resumed on Friday evening under cool conditions, it was Broken Arrow, Oklahoma's Brady Bacon, who wouldn't let a severely smoking engine, virtue of an oil overflow, slow him down as he raced to the preliminary victory. A hard-charging Shane Stewart finished in second and Travis Rilat came home in third. With their performances the trio locked into Saturday night's 40 lap finale.

With the Thursday program finally completed a little over 24 hours after it initially began, the Friday slate of racing tackled the 1/4 mile oval. A star-studded field that included many of the nation's best went to war in the event. While former event champions and Bartlett, Tennessee residents Jason Sides and Sammy Swindell waged a heated battle for the lead early in the event, it was former World of Outlaws Champion Danny Lasoski who passed both drivers late in the race to claim the preliminary win. Sides and Swindell followed him across the line to lock into Saturday night's main event.

With the preliminary events in the history books, Saturday's program was next on tap. A near-capacity crowd began funneling into the facility early Saturday morning, and by 6:00 p.m. that night spectators were parking as far away as a mile down the road as I-30 Speedway was bursting at the seams with racers and fans. The massive crowd would not leave disappointed.

By 7:30 p.m. hot laps were underway, and prior to the racing action several presentations were made to various drivers. The most touching involved a former racer, Josh Howard, who hails from Byhalia, Mississippi. Howard was paralyzed from the waist down in a freak accident during the race's 2007 edition. Over the past few years he has fought hard on his road to recovery, and while he still isn't able to walk, he has surpassed the expectations of many of his doctors. The 2011 running of the event marked his first time back at the COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals, and he was there to present the Josh Howard Determination Award, which is a special award presented each year to the driver who demonstrates the most drive and determination to overcome adversity. The award for 2011 was presented to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma's Wayne Johnson, who, despite doctor's predictions, returned to racing late last year after almost having his right foot completely severed in a racing accident. It was an emotional moment as the entire crowd gave the pair a standing ovation, and many of the fans came to give Howard their well-wishes.

With the event's opening ceremonies in the rearview mirror, racing finally began. The field was distributed into a series of alphabet races, whose lineups were determined by driver's performances on their qualifying nights. The preliminary events started with a pair of E-Mains and concluded with a pair of B-Mains. By the time the B-Mains were completed, a field of 21 cars had been assembled for the coveted $15,000-to-win and $2,400-to-start feature. Via a dash held earlier in the night for the top six cars that had locked into the feature on their qualifying nights, it was Danny Lasoski and Shane Stewart who sat on the front row for the 40 lap finale.

As the race went green Stewart jumped to the lead, with Lasoski, Bacon and the fourth-starting Swindell in tow. Swindell quickly worked his way to the second position and stalked early leader Shane Stewart until lap 13, when he raced past Stewart for the top spot exiting turn four. Once out front Swindell methodically began to motor away from the field as Bacon moved past Stewart for second. By lap 25 Swindell had a straightaway lead, and looked to be on his way to a comfortable win before the caution flew on lap 28 for a spun car. During the caution Swindell's right front went flat. Swindell is one of the most polarizing drivers in the sport; fans either love him or hate him with no middle ground, and when it was announced that his tire had gone flat, many of his naysayers came to their feet cheering thinking that his bid at a second title was gone. However, the determined Swindell would be far from done.

When the field lined up for the restart Swindell had a four car cushion between himself and second place runner Brady Bacon, as four lapped cars were placed in between the duo. When the green flag flew for the final time Swindell would do his best to drive his injured mount away from the field as Bacon needed four laps to clear the lapped cars. Once he cleared the traffic he had open track between himself and Swindell, but it wouldn't matter as even with the flat tire Swindell inched away from the field to claim the $15,000 payday, marking his second COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals title and first since 1990. He was followed across the line by Bacon, Stewart, Lasoski and Sides.

In victory lane a confident Swindell commented in front of a crowd full of mixed emotions.

"The last few years all I needed to do was finish and I'd win, but things broke or different things have happened like a tire going flat or whatever," Swindell explained after his ninth career COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals feature start. "We had a flat tonight, but it didn't slow us down, with three wheels it was still better than anybody else. Those guys better go back to work."

Swindell's victory lane comments saw the crowd reply with many boos, while a handful of Swindell supporters gloated in the moment. Whether or not race fans were pleased with the result, one thing was for sure, another COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals had entertained the masses and produced just enough drama to tide race fans over during the off-season. In total a massive purse that boasted over $116,000 was paid out over the course of the weekend's festivities.
