Specialty COMP Cams® Performance Camshafts

Hi-Tech™ Race Cams
Hi-Tech™ Cams are available in two different lifter types:

  • Hi-Tech™ Solid Flat Tappet — The cam uses solid lifters, therefore the customer must want higher performance at higher RPM. The customer must also be unconcerned with valve lash maintenance
  • Hi-Tech™ Solid Roller — Uses a solid roller lifter, therefore, it can be made to be more aggressive than a hydraulic roller. For use in high performance applications where the ultimate concern is performance potential at higher RPM. Periodic checking of the valve lash is necessary and must not be a problem
  • Xtreme Energy™ Cams
Designed to take advantage of the latest improvements in valve train components and the newest developments in camshaft design. Their aggressive lobe design produces better throttle response and top end horsepower than other cams with the same duration @ .050”, while delivering increased engine vacuum
    Nitrous HP™ Cams
These camshafts are designed to maximize performance from engines equipped with nitrous oxide or supercharging, but the carefully tailored profiles deliver strong performances without nitrous; however, they offer incredible gains with nitrous

    Muscle Car Cams
Who would have ever thought that a car you could buy new for $6,500 in 1970 would be worth $40,000 or $50,000 just a couple of decades later? To the delight of many, the rebirth of the factory-prepared high performance car has come of age. These reminders of an era gone by are being restored in overwhelming numbers. To many people, these old muscle cars are not only a link to the past, but also a very sound, high profit investment.

During the “heyday” of the factory muscle car, each of the auto manufacturers produced what they thought would be the perfect muscle car. Names and numbers like “Hemi, LS6, Z-28, Boss, and Ram-Air-5” represented the ultimate in performance. Unfortunately, not everyone could afford these factory prepared monsters. Consequently, auto makers also offered these muscle cars in more practical forms that were easy to maintain and could be driven everyday with power accessories.

It would be safe to say that over 80% of the muscle cars built in the early 1960’s and 1970’s had the more practical and economical powerplant. Most of the engines used were already in production and received few, if any changes when installed. The main thing to do was just put a big engine in a light car and go. As a result of the factories using the same basic motors in their high performance cars, the consumer then again ended up with camshafts that were universal. The compromise in power was necessary to maintain idle quality, vacuum for power accessories, and to prevent permanent failure.

COMP Cams® has recognized this compromise for years. That is why we offer a special series of “Muscle Car” cams. We know that these high compression, big valve motors have always responded well to camshaft changes. The design techniques used today can almost be considered “light years” ahead of the cams and designs that were available back then.

We can now, through computer-aided design, produce more torque and power than original cams, yet maintain efficiency and driveability. COMP Cams® has taken the muscle car camshaft market very seriously. Our designs can improve the overall power and performance of your muscle car without making it a hassle.

COMP Cams® has always maintained that driving habits, gear ratio, motor size and type of transmission are the keys to choosing the right cam. If you need any help with selecting the right camshaft for your muscle car, call COMP Cams® CAM HELP® Line at 1-800-999-0853.
