New format levels the playing field for competitors who will take on the COMP Cams® engine dyno September 15-18 in Memphis, TN

Once again, eight of the top Mopar engine builders in the country will descend on the Memphis, TN, headquarters of COMP Cams® in their quest to win the prestigious 2008 AMSOIL/Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge. An annual pilgrimage for Mopar power builders, this year the challenge will include a slightly different format using 440cid “spec” engines, a new test for this very competitive field of builders. Randy Bolig, Editor of Mopar Muscle magazine said, “This year`s AMSOIL/Mopar Muscle Engine Challenge is a little different from previous challenges. In the past, we let the engine builders choose the parts they felt would work the best while staying within a specific set of rules. After the dyno testing was over, we tallied each engine`s total peak horsepower and torque from a single dyno pull, and divided that number from the retail cost of a pre-determined list of hard parts used (e.g. heads, rods, etc.)

“This year we changed it up by specifying a stock stroke, a 0.030-inch maximum overbore and requiring the use of the same style of cylinder heads. Now, we place the burden of making power on the engine builder. Since we did have a short list of required parts, we removed the retail cost factor and decided to highlight the engine builder`s talents and see what happens. This should be an exciting challenge for sure.”
