2nd Annual COMP Cams® Grass Root Nationals

Howard & Gray mow down competition at Riverside International Speedway

With a large crowd in the stands and a full pit area, the 2nd Annual COMP Cams® Grass Root Nationals Presented by MidSouthRacing.com was held on Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas.

The Racing Head Service™ 305 Wingless Sprint Car division saw twenty-seven competitors sign in to battle for the $1,000 top prize. Jan Howard from Byhalia, Mississippi started the night by becoming the Ray’s Auto Collision Fast Qualifier after recording a 13.968 second lap. Howard would then go on to take the win and the $250 check in the Sun Dial Shirt Company Dash for Cash, which earned him the pole position for the 25 lap feature event. In the feature event, Howard would motor away from the field en route to the $1,000 payday. Eddie Gallagher, Eric Sandage, Brad Bowden, and Tim Sites rounded out the top five at the finish line.

The TCI® Automotive Street Stock division was also in action battling for a $1,000 top prize. Thirty-One entries from three states entered the event with Winfred Gatlin from Hernando, Mississippi earning $200 for setting quick time in Ray’s Auto Collision Time Trials. Justin Glover powered his way to the $250 win in the Washington Construction Dash For Cash, which earning the pole position for the 20 lap feature event. In the feature, seventh starting Terry Gray would go on to lead the last three laps and narrowly outrun Neil Brown to the checkered flag. James Poag, Kevin Davis, and Jonathan Page rounded out the top five.

Also at the event was the 360 Winged Sprint Car division with 21 entries on hand. Jeff Swindell took advantage of his pole starting position to win the 20 lap feature event by a straightaway over Jan Howard, Tim Sites, Tim Crawley, and Marshall Skinner.
