McCreadie Checks Out At The 16th Annual COMP Cams® Topless 100

LOCUST GROVE, AR (August 18, 2008)- After taking the lead on the first lap of the 16th Annual COMP Cams® Topless 100 Saturday Night, 34-year-old Tim McCreadie of Watertown, NY never looked back and captured the biggest win of his Dirt Late Model career.

The son of Big Block Modified great “Barefoot” Bob McCreadie led all 100 laps of the race and took home $25,000. The winner of the COMP Cams® Engine Builder of the Race was Pro Power Racing Engines, based in Sullivan, Wisconsin.

For those who are new to the name of the event, the Topless 100 carries the unique name “topless” due to roofs being removed so spectators have a better view of the drivers piloting their machines around the lightning fast 3/8-mile clay oval.

Due to a forced schedule change after Friday Night’s time trials and Heat Races were washed out, the event ran its entirety Saturday Night and was a major success. The race was taped and covered by SPEED Channel, with just over 70 of the nation’s top Late Models and 40 Modifieds on hand.

Having been the sponsor of this event for 12 years, COMP Cams® personnel were on hand throughout the weekend to provide race teams with technical support and assistance. Also, COMP Cams® and Larry Shaw Race Cars added extra contingency awards to the Modified payout.

In the 100-lap Late Model feature, McCreadie was rarely challenged. After the caution caused by a left rear flat to Mars’ #28 car on lap 57, Brady Smith of Solon Springs, WI would challenge McCreadie on the restart with a slide job in turn two that put him in front. However, his lead would be short-lived, as McCreadie would regain the lead on turn 4 of the same lap. With help from lap traffic and an intense battle for the #2 spot, the race became a battle for second. After several challenges and position changes, Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, IA would finally take second from Smith, who finished third. Rounding out the top 5 were Jeremy Payne of Springfield, MO and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV.

But Tim McCreadie was certainly not the only dominant driver of the night. Jared Landers also left the pack in the Modified feature, making it a one horse race to victory.
