-------- news update --------
Memphis, TN − With the rapid approach of the 24th Annual COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway (Little Rock, Arkansas) on October 26h-29th, 2011, COMP Cams® is looking forward to its second year of being the title sponsor of the coveted event. In 2010 COMP Cams® saw an opportunity to increase its support of one of the nation`s top dirt track events, and as a result the company made the transition from an associate sponsor to the title sponsor of the annual COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Arkansas. The event proved to be such a success for all parties involved that the decision was made to extend the sponsorship for the 2011 season. The 24th Annual COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals features four nights of Sprint Car action at the high-banked, red clay ¼ mile on October 26th-29th, 2011. Wednesday’s opening night serves as an open practice, with the Thursday and Friday night portions of the show seeing the field divided in half for preliminaries. For the 2011 season, however, the Saturday night portion of the program features an all new format. In years past the field from both qualifying nights was combined for the finale, which meant another complete show of more than 20 qualifying races was held. With over 120 Sprint Cars in attendance in 2010, the track took a beating and did not produce the quality of racing that the staff at I-30 Speedway expects to provide to its competitors and fans. As a result, instead of a fresh program of racing action on Saturday, in 2011 the there will be a series of alphabet races, including F-Mains, D-Mains, C-Mains, B-Mains, and the 40 lap finale. The various race lineups will be determined by the performances of drivers on their respective qualifying nights. The intent of the program is to put fewer laps on the track and present a greater opportunity for the best possible track conditions for the main event, which posts a $15,000 winner`s check and $2,400 just to start for the twenty car grid. The total purse for 2011 is well in excess of $110,000, which makes it the richest 360 cubic inch Sprint Car event in the nation. The event is also sanctioned by the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series. The combination of the timing of this event and the purse that is posted results in arguably the most eclectic and talented field of Sprint Cars assembled in the country each year. The event has grown to attract over 100 Sprint Cars. In fact, in 2010, while many events struggled to draw cars, this race drew its biggest car count ever as 125 entries from 22 states and Australia took part. The event`s past champions list is a who’s who of Sprint Car racing with names that include defending champion Brad Sweet, Tony Bruce Jr., Steve Kinser, Sammy Swindell, Paul McMahan, Jason Johnson, Tim Crawley and several others. In the first 23 editions of the event, 16 different drivers have claimed wins. Gary Wright of Hooks, Texas, owns the most titles with four. COMP Cams® became involved with the event in 2008, when it began sponsoring an incentive for drivers who were starting on the front row for the finale, with the option to start deep in the field for bonus money. “We at COMP Cams® were extremely excited and honored to be able to become the title sponsor for the COMP Cams® Short Track Nationals in 2010,” says COMP Cams® VP of Marketing, Chris Douglas. “We were more than pleased with the outcome of our sponsorship last year, and it was a no-brainer to renew the sponsorship for 2011. Not only is this race an event, but it is also a happening, and it offers so much to racers and fans. It`s the epitome of what racing in this country is all about. We look forward to a long relationship, and hope to help the event grow even more as we move forward.” For more information on the 24th Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals, please visit www.I-30Speedway.com.
